Before Your Session

If you are nursing avoid spicy foods and caffeine 24 hours prior to your session. Your little one's belly is getting used to your milk and this will hopefully avoid any gas or stomach issues. This helps give us the best chances for a happy baby!

Try to keep your baby awake for one hour prior to our session. I know this is hard, but do your best - this will help ensure a very sleepy baby for our session. A sleepy baby is the best throughout the session, they’re easy to pose for the best pictures of your little one!

Dress your baby in loose fitting clothing that zips or buttons up the middle so if they arrive sleeping we can undress him/her easily without waking. Avoid onesies or clothing that will have to go over baby’s head. We want to keep baby healthy and sleepy for the session, so plan their outfit to be easy to get on and off!

Feed your baby right before leaving for the studio. This will ensure a sleepy full baby arrives at the studio and we’ll have the best session!

What Should I Bring?

Keep things minimal, I’ll have all of the props and outfits, but there are a few things you can bring to your Columbus Ohio newborn session.

  • If you’re formula feeding or pumping, bring a bottle and some extra milk. This will help when we are trying to comfort baby if they get upset or start to wake up during the session.

  • If your baby uses a pacifier, bring one for soothing as well!

  • If there are any objects or sentimental items you want to include in your newborn’s session bring those as well.

Don’t worry if you forget diapers, wipes, or diaper cream. We keep a stash of those items at the studio with snacks for you as well! We’ll have water, and coffee, but feel free to bring your own snacks as well.

Parent & Sibling Portraits at Your Columbus Ohio Newborn Session

Including siblings or you and your spouse in pictures? Perfect! We love having extra friends in newborn pictures, it’s a great way to bring the family together, and include older siblings in on the action. Parent and sibling shots are typically taken first. Family shots are taken on a grey, white or tan backdrop. We recommend wearing solid neutral colors, especially grey, white, tan or cream. Older siblings can wear a light colored shirt to match the gender of the baby, solid neutral colors, jeans and/or dresses for girls. Try to avoid busy patterns and graphics.

While including siblings is incredibly fun, our goal for the session is keeping the studio quiet and calm for baby. A quiet studio is best for achieving the best shots of your sweet newborn. So, once the sibling shots are complete, we recommend having your spouse/partner take siblings home or out for something fun while we finish up your Columbus Ohio newborn session! We do have a kid’s play area to keep them busy if they have to stay at the studio.

How Long Will My Newborn Session Be?

For a full newborn session plan on your session being around 2-3 hours. the younger the baby the less likely we will need all 3 hours, but we recommend you block of that time to avoid any stress! The studio is kept at a very warm 80 degrees during the session. This keeps baby warm and sleepy, a fan is located in the client sitting area for your comfort. You may want to also bring more comfortable clothing to change into after the family portion is complete!

Are Props Available or Will I Need to Bring Some?

Upon scheduling we will discuss colors, props, and other ideas you may have. Break out your Pinterest inspiration! We have a wide variety of blankets, baskets, hats, headbands, wraps, and whatever else you can think of. We also have clothing for children and moms to use as well! If there is a specific item you want to have photographed with your sweet babe, you are welcome to bring those to your session as well!

While it may seem like a lot, your Columbus Ohio newborn session will be an absolute breeze, and you’ll have incredible pictures to last a lifetime. These newborn moments are so fleeting, and I love being able to help honor and treasure these special moments with you.
