As a columbus newborn photographer, I work with so many families with new babies and they are always talking about all of the new baby items out there. My kids are a little older, so the things available when they were infants are pretty different than some of the great things out there now. So we’ve complied a list of Baby Registry Ideas.
We also have found a few pretty cool gadgets that we use in the studio to soothe babies and when parents come to our studio they always ask about them. So I figured I’d put together a list of some great items to think about to put on your baby registry.
I didn’t want to focus on the basic items like cribs, strollers, car seats etc. I want to feature items that you may not think about or even know about.
WHERE TO REGISTER
First before even thinking about items to put on your list, you have to think about where you would like to register. There are so many different items from so many different places and www.Babylist.com is a great place to compile all of the things you would like into one place! You can literally add any item, from any store!
If you have been to my studio for a newborn photography session, or watched a behind the scenes video on our social media, you have probably heard the white noise we use. After photographing babies for nearly a decade, I’ve found that the one we use works the best. Every baby is a little different, but 9 times out of 10, this sound machine helps put baby right to sleep.
You can purchase the actual noise maker, or you can purchase the app for $5 and add it to your phone. I did both with my kids. I would use my phone when I was out and about and baby was getting fussy. Then I had the actual shusher for the nursery. at about $35 it is worth every penny. It is a parent voted best pick for 2019 on www.Babylist.com and we just love it!
Another gadget we use for our newborn photography sessions is this vibrating pad. We all know how most babies seem to fall asleep in the car because of the vibration and movement, so this naturally helps them fall asleep.
For safety it’s recommended to put between the crib mattress and base as shown above. At a great price point of about $25 it’s a perfect item for your registry.
This item was recently featured in one of the newborn photography groups I follow on facebook. It has great reviews and moms are saying it gives that feeling of vibration and movement babies really love. It’s priced a little higher at around $50, but if you are one who is out and about a lot with baby, this could come in handy!
This item was recommended by one of our clients. For those nursing mamas this breast pump can come in handy the first few months to save extra milk. Attach the pump while your child is feeding on your other breast and collect all let down and milk which would otherwise be lost into a breast pad. Waking up in the middle of the night or if engorged during the day. Also attach your pump for relief.
Perfect for long distance trips, planes, car rides or anywhere you would like to discretely express silently and quickly. At about $20, this is well worth it if it saves that liquid gold!
Also recommended by a client, these cookies are for nursing mamas to help increase production. There are several different kinds available. One of our clients recommends They are made with Fenugreek for lactation support and packed with added vitamins, minerals. You can purchase them individual packs for about $2.30 or in a box of 10 for about $21. What a great item to add to your registry!
Another client recommended item for those mamas who are formula feeding is this formula dispense. It’s like a Keurig for formula! The babybrezza Formula Pro Advanced Formula Dispenser makes a warm, formula bottle instantly. Customize any bottle by choosing 1 oz. increments from 2-10 ounces and selecting from 3 temperature settings. It mixes formula powder and water to ideal consistency without air bubbles every time.
It’s a little pricey at $199, but sometimes the convenience of a perfectly made bottle in the middle of the night is worth the money!
While registering for “items” is probably the most traditional, there are things that you may not even think of. How about help with your new baby, sleep training or nursing help? You will thank yourself later for adding this amazing company to your Babylist.com registry. Owned by two local mamas, Ohio Baby Co helps guide parents through pregnancy, the first year and beyond.
I would have LOVED to use a service like this when my girls were infants. Imagine having a postpartum doula come to your home and take care of your baby through the night so you can sleep. They fold your laundry, pack lunches for older kiddos for the next day and take care of everything. Magical isn’t it….
There are so many services these gals offer and they work with families to do just about anything from postpartum assistance to sleep training!
8. Sleep Sacks
This may seem like an obvious choice, but there are so many different types of swaddles and sleep sacks out there.
If you’ve had a newborn photography session with us, you’ve likely seen my swaddling. I’ve been told it’s impressive. During your session we swaddle your baby up tight. For a short time during a photography session this is perfectly safe. But for overnight or long periods of time it can be bad for their hips among other things. So for at-home swaddling we recommend swaddle sacks.
When you’re home, it’s not safe to swaddle them up as tight as we do at the studio. So you need something that is comfortable, safe and will keep your baby in place.
The gals over at Ohio Baby Co. say that swaddles with velcro are one of their most used items. One of our clients recommends the Halo SleepSack Swaddle. Priced at about $20 these cotton swaddle gowns are great, safe for baby and allows you to swaddle their arms in, or out.
Another nursing mama favorite and studio client recommended item is the Kiinde milk storage system. These have amazing reviews. These products eliminates milk transfering, making the process more sanitary as well as saves time and milk loss! If you’re pumping at work this is a must have!
This gift set is priced at $99 and with everything included, seems more than reasonable.
